The work is necessary as part of the West County Connectors project
Sept. 12, 2012
ORANGE – Beginning at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, the eastbound Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) connector to the northbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) will close for 12 months.
The connector, which carries approximately 3,000 vehicles a day, must be reconstructed in order to accommodate the new carpool lane connector between the I-405 and the San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605).
During construction, the eastbound SR-22 connector to the northbound I-605 will remain open.
The following detour is recommended from the eastbound SR-22:
- Exit at Studebaker Road. Turn right on Studebaker Road and proceed north to access the northbound I-405 freeway on-ramp.
The $277 million West County Connectors project will improve traffic flow by directly connecting carpool lanes on I-405, I-605 and SR-22. In addition, a second carpool lane will be constructed on I-405 between SR-22 and I-605. Construction began in 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2014.
