Jan. 27, 2011

ORANGE – Orange County residents are invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a free Metrolink ride to Chinatown in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The first 100 guests will receive free round-trip Metrolink tickets, courtesy of Metrolink, to ring in the “Year of the Rabbit” at the Golden Dragon Parade in Los Angeles’ Chinatown.

“Taking the train to the parade is a safe and hassle-free way for residents to enjoy the Lunar New Year festivities and OCTA is pleased to participate once again in this community holiday,” said OCTA Chair Patricia Bates, also the Fifth District supervisor.

Tickets will be handed out beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Irvine Transportation Center, 15215 Barranca Parkway in Irvine.

Participants can catch the 9:38 a.m. train to Los Angeles Union station. All Metrolink tickets are good for a free transfer on the Gold Line to Chinatown.

Those who ride the train to the parade also can enter the Orange County Metrolink Lunar New Year photo contest by uploading a picture of themselves on the way to the event or at the parade to the OC Metrolink Facebook page.

Photos must be uploaded by Feb. 12 and the winner will receive four free round-trip Metrolink tickets.
