Eastbound 91 Express Lanes in O.C. to Close This Weekend

Closure begins at 11 p.m. Friday, allowing for upgraded toll technology to be installed

ORANGE – The eastbound 91 Express Lanes will close this weekend beginning at 11 p.m. Friday so that the Orange County Transportation Authority can upgrade toll-reading technology.

Similar work has already been completed in the westbound lanes, which will remain open. All lanes of the 91 Express Lanes and SR-91 in Riverside County also will remain open.

The eastbound 91 Express Lanes will be closed on the Orange County side – from SR-55 in Anaheim to the border with Riverside County from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 to approximately 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7.

The work will halt during Monday commuting hours, then resume at 11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8 – when the work is expected to be finished.

The technology upgrade, which is mostly taking place at the toll gantry near Yorba Linda Boulevard/Weir Canyon Road, will also require the periodic closure of the left regular lane, which is the lane closest to the 91 Express Lanes, in that area. That work in the regular lane will be completed mostly during overnight hours Friday night through Monday morning to ensure optimal traffic flow through the area.

The lane closures are required for the technology to be installed and for the safety of crews working in the area. Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling in the area and are advised to expect delays and to consider using alternate routes during the closure.

The work on the 91 Express Lanes is being completed to upgrade transponder technology that will integrate with a new statewide technology to allow for more seamless use of all California toll facilities.

The 91 Express Lanes, operated by OCTA, will be mailing new sticker transponders later this year. For updates, visit www.91expresslanes.com.
