ORANGE – Bekele Demissie has been named Business Leader of the year for 2009 by the Orange County Presidents Council (OCPC).
Demissie is a business relations administrator for the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), where his primary responsibility is serving as a liaison between businesses and OCTA. He was recognized for his commitment to leading seminars, providing information and assisting in training for small businesses and OCPC members.
“Bekele is an instrumental leader in the business community,” said Ed Royce, U.S. Representative for the 40th District of California, who presented the award. “His commitment to improving business relationships and opportunities among culturally diverse organizations will have a lasting impact in Orange County.”
Demissie began his career at OCTA in 2000 and co-founded the OCPC in 2001.
A partnership with more than 20 organizations, OCPC works to increase the economic opportunities and promote communication and cooperation among culturally diverse chambers of commerce, businesses and non-profit organizations in Southern California.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by this unique organization,” Demissie said. “Improving relationships with the business community is vital to any company and I am grateful to be involved with OCPC to ensure OCTA continues to work with companies throughout the region."
In addition to his work at OCTA, Demissie founded the Ethiopian/American Christian Church in Fullerton and the Ethiopian/American Council. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in biblical studies and leadership from Hope International University.
