After working around the clock during a 55-hour weekend closure, crews successfully completed a major traffic switch to open the newly reconstructed connector between the southbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) and the eastbound Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22).
The construction team opened the connector to motorists just before 5 a.m. Monday, July 29, marking a major milestone for the West County Connectors project.
With the new connector complete, crews will move forward to demolish the old structure during the third weekend in August, a major demolition activity that will require a full 20-hour closure of the I-405 freeway.
