Learn About Upcoming SR-55 Construction at Virtual Meetings on April 27, May 18

The SR-55 Improvement Project in central Orange County is scheduled break ground this summer

ORANGE – The public is invited to learn about the SR-55 Improvement Project at two virtual webinars in the coming weeks.

The project, scheduled to break ground this summer, will add a regular lane and a carpool lane in each direction between I-5 near Santa Ana and Tustin and I-405 near Irvine and Costa Mesa. It will also add auxiliary lanes to help drivers more smoothly enter and exit the freeway.

The improvements will help increase access to job centers, health care and educational facilities, as well as South Coast Plaza and John Wayne Airport, among other important destinations for the region. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.

Two virtual meetings are being offered on Zoom:

  • Noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27 (to register, visit bit.ly/3NaHDoX)
  • 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 (to register, visit bit.ly/3DrmF0l)

Participants may also call into the meeting. Contact the project team at (888) 371-2555 for details.

The same presentation will be given at both meetings and will include project and construction information, as well as how to stay informed. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of each presentation.

Spanish translation will be available during both webinars.

The SR-55 Improvement Project is a critical part of fulfilling the promise of Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation, also known as OC Go.

SR-55 is a vital north-to-south freeway that links central Orange County to the coastal region. More than 260,000 vehicles use that stretch of SR-55 every day, and that number is expected to grow to nearly 275,000 vehicles by 2040.

The freeway is also an important route for commercial traffic, with an estimated 17,000 daily truck trips. The improvements are expected to save up to 1,500 hours in daily truck travel time, helping to also improve air quality.
