Transportation agency launches audio streaming to enhance public access
ORANGE – Residents who wonder how Orange County transportation decisions are made but don’t have time to spend two or more hours sitting in a board room, now have an option.
Beginning June 23, a live audio stream of the Orange County Transportation Authority board of directors’ meetings will be available through the public agency’s Web site at www.octa.net/listenlive.
Listen online as the 17-member board of directors discusses planning, funding and implementing Orange County’s freeway improvements, bus operations, Metrolink service and streets and roads projects.
“We at OCTA affect all 3 million Orange Countians as they move about their daily lives. Through the Internet, we’re opening a virtual window to our inner workings,” said OCTA Chairman Chris Norby, also the Fourth District supervisor.
Users are required to have Windows Media Player to listen to the meetings. If needed, a link to download the player is available on OCTA’s Web site. In addition to the live streaming, an archive of meetings will be available to allow people online access at any time.
“We are stewards of the public’s money and mobility and now all can listen to how we’re doing from their living rooms or offices,” Norby said.
The board of directors meetings are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month. Schedules may vary for holidays. For those interested in attending in person, the board meets at OCTA Headquarters, 600 S. Main St. in Orange.
