New OCTA Chairman Amante Announces Goals

Focus is maximizing efficiencies and project delivery in challenging environment
ORANGE – Newly selected Orange County Transportation Authority Chairman Jerry Amante unveiled his strategic initiatives for the year ahead, placing the focus on how the agency operates and continuing to deliver projects in this difficult economic climate.

Amante’s priorities call for an administrative review of OCTA’s internal operations that will examine opportunities for increased efficiency and will develop a plan to ensure long-term success of the agency.

“Our resolve to deliver transportation solutions to Orange County residents remains as strong as ever, despite an unprecedented financial crisis,” Amante said. “To deliver on our commitments, we must ensure the agency is operating at the highest levels of efficiency.”

Amante hit the ground running during his first meeting when the board adopted his proposal to reduce the number of committee meetings each year to 70 from the previous 120. The move will lead to increased productivity and result in a cost savings of $245,000 to the agency.

“With a hiring freeze in place and a reduced workforce, it’s critical that we maximize staff time and focus our efforts on delivering the services and projects that directly benefit the residents of Orange County,” Amante said.

The 10 Strategic Initiatives unveiled by Amante today include:
Grow workplace excellence & efficiency
Transition seamlessly to Measure M2
Stabilize bus operations
Enhance rail service and safety
Laying tracks for the future with California High-Speed Rail and ARTIC
Complete Central County Major Investment Study
Maximize strategic collaboration with stakeholders and government agencies
Secure Orange County’s fair share of funding
Enhance OCTA customers’ experience
Implement and explore carpool lane and high-occupancy toll lane improvements
