OCTA to Unveil Vehicles for OC Flex Microtransit Service Set to Launch This Month
WHAT: | The Orange County Transportation Authority is unveiling its new OC Flex vehicles that will be part of a one-year pilot program offering on-demand, curb-to-curb shuttle service. OC Flex, which will operate seven days a week, will offer service during the pilot program in two zones – one in Huntington Beach and Westminster and the other in Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel. Riders can hop aboard the shuttle service for $4.50 when using the OC Flex mobile app or pay $5 cash. A pass gives customers unlimited daily rides in either of the zones and on any OC Bus. Media is invited to join the event, which will show the vehicles and celebrate the upcoming launch of the service, immediately following Monday’s 9 a.m. OCTA Board of Directors meeting. The service launches Oct. 15 in Huntington Beach/Westminster and Oct. 20 in Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel. |
WHEN: | Approximately 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8 (immediately following the 9 a.m. OCTA Board of Directors meeting). |
WHERE: | OCTA Headquarters, 600 S. Main St. Orange, CA 92868 |
WHO: | Scheduled to be in attendance and available to speak: • OCTA Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett, also Orange County’s Fifth District Supervisor • OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson • OCTA Transit staff who can answer questions about the vehicle and new service. |
WHY: | OC Flex is a new on-demand microtransit service of shuttles that can carry up to eight passengers at a time and take customers curb-to-curb to any location within the two operating zones. The service is operated by professional drivers who have gone through background checks and completed extensive safety training. The OC Flex pilot program is part of OCTA’s effort to meet the changing needs of public transit riders. The operating cost of the pilot program will primarily be paid for by a grant from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee. |
