OC Fair Express Attracts Record Ridership

OC Fair Express Attracts Record Ridership

80 percent more people jumped on board the service during opening weekend

 July 18, 2012

ORANGE –  The 2012 OC Fair opened its gates this past weekend and a record number of fairgoers took the OC Fair Express bus service to save money and avoid the hassles of parking and traffic.

The Orange County Transportation Authority service provided more than 5,500 trips during the first three days of the fair – an 80 percent increase from the 3,000 trips taken during the same period in 2011.

“The success of opening weekend exceeded our expectations and I am thrilled to see so many fairgoers taking advantage of this convenient and affordable way to get to and from the fair,” said OCTA Chairman Paul Glaab, also the mayor of Laguna Niguel.

The OC Fair Express provides non-stop direct service from eight park and ride lots to the OC Fair through Aug. 12. Buses run hourly between approximately 2:30 p.m. and midnight on Friday and 9:30 a.m. and midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

OC Fair Express passengers also receive a coupon good for $2 admission to the fair – a savings of $9 off the regular ticket price. Riders can board for a regular one-way fare of $1.50 and catch the service from the following locations:

  • Fullerton Park and Ride, 3000 W. Orangethorpe Ave. in Fullerton
  • The Depot at Santa Ana, 1000 E. Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana
  • Goldenwest Transportation Center, 7301 Center Ave. in Huntington Beach
  • Anaheim Canyon Metrolink Station, 1039 N. Pacificenter Drive in Anaheim
  • Tustin/Lincoln Park and Ride, Corner of SR-55 and Lincoln Ave. in Orange
  • Laguna Hills Transportation Center, 24282 Calle de los Caballeros in Laguna Hills
  • Irvine Metrolink Station, 15215 Barranca Parkway in Irvine
  • Junipero Serra Park and Ride, Corner of 1-5 Freeway and Junipero Serra Road in San Juan Capistrano

The OC Fair Express is made possible in part by a $342,000 grant provided by the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC). MSRC provides subsidies for cleaner transportation alternatives.
