OC Fair Express Kicking Off July 13 With Two Additional Routes

Riders will receive a coupon good for $2 admission to the fair

 July 9, 2012

ORANGE –  The Orange County Transportation Authority is bringing back the OC Fair Express with additional service to accommodate the increase in fairgoers looking to save money and avoid the hassle of driving.

The OC Fair Express will provide non-stop direct service from eight park and ride lots to the OC Fair from July 13 to Aug. 12. Buses will run hourly between approximately 2:30 p.m. and midnight on Friday and 9:30 a.m. and midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

OC Fair Express passengers also will receive a coupon good for $2 admission to the fair –a savings of $9 off the regular ticket price.

“For the same price as a regular bus trip, fairgoers can enjoy a relaxing ride that will drop them off just steps from the gate,” said OCTA Chairman Paul Glaab, also the mayor of Laguna Niguel. “Nearly 26,000 people took advantage of the service last year and we look forward to expanding the service and giving more people the opportunity to jump on board the savings.”

Riders can board for a regular one-way fare of $1.50 and catch the service from two new locations this year, the Laguna Hills Transportation Center and Irvine train station. Locations include:

  • Fullerton Park and Ride, 3000 W. Orangethorpe Ave. in Fullerton
  • The Depot at Santa Ana, 1000 E. Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana
  • Goldenwest Transportation Center, 7301 Center Ave. in Huntington Beach
  • Anaheim Canyon Metrolink Station, 1039 N. Pacificenter Drive in Anaheim
  • Tustin/Lincoln Park and Ride, Corner of SR-55 and Lincoln Ave. in Orange
  • Laguna Hills Transportation Center, 24282 Calle de los Caballeros in Laguna Hills
  • Irvine Metrolink Station, 15215 Barranca Parkway in Irvine
  • Junipero Serra Park and Ride, Corner of 1-5 Freeway and Junipero Serra Road in San Juan Capistrano

All prepaid OCTA passes and valid Metrolink fares will be accepted.

To kick of the OC Fair Express, OCTA will be at the Irvine Metrolink station between  9:30 and 10:30 a.m. on July 14 giving riders a chance to win free carnival ride and food coupons.

The OC Fair Express is made possible in part by a $342,000 grant provided by the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC). MSRC provides subsidies for cleaner transportation alternatives.
