Project, paid for with local and federal funds, will help add track and passenger platform space for a more efficient rail travel experience
ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority, in partnership with Metrolink and the city of Anaheim, is beginning work this month on long-awaited improvements to the Metrolink station at Anaheim Canyon.
The project will help facilitate a more efficient, comfortable rail experience for commuters and other rail passengers traveling through north Orange County.
The Anaheim Canyon Station, located just north of SR-91 near La Palma and Tustin avenues, is an important stop along the Inland Empire-Orange County line, with more than 36 trains traveling through the area daily.
The Anaheim Canyon Metrolink Station Improvement Project will include:
- A new second passenger platform
- Extending the existing passenger platform
- A new second track of approximately 3,400 feet
- Improvements to at-grade crossings at La Palma and Tustin avenues
- New benches, shade structures and ticket vending machines.
The improvements are expected to enhance rail service reliability and on-time performance for Metrolink passengers.
The project, scheduled for completion in 2023, is estimated to cost approximately $30 million and is being paid for with local dollars from Orange County’s voter-approved Measure M sales tax for transportation improvements (OC Go), and with federal funds.
Some temporary street closures adjacent to the station are anticipated during the construction at grade crossings. The anticipated length of the closures and detour information will be announced in advance.
