OCTA Board Approves $1.3 Billion Balanced Budget

The 2018-19 fiscal year budget includes focus on transit service and continued delivery of major capital projects to keep Orange County moving

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority Board of Directors approved a balanced budget of more than $1.3 billion for the upcoming fiscal year during its Monday meeting.

Major initiatives for the budget include continuing Measure M improvements, including advancing the I-405 project, moving forward with the OC Streetcar, launching the OC Flex on-demand shuttle pilot, and enhancing bus service through the OC Bus 360° program.

“The approval of this year’s balanced budget demonstrates OCTA’s dedication to continue delivering on the promises made to voters who approved Measure M,” said OCTA Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett, also the Fifth District County Supervisor. “Whether you walk, bike, ride or drive, the budget will enhance the connectivity of transportation programs and continue to keep people moving throughout the county.”

The Fiscal Year 2018-19 budget encompasses all services, projects and programs that are administered by OCTA. The budget will go into effect July 1, reflecting a significant investment in capital projects.

Funding allocations for the budget include:

  • $ 290 million for bus operations
  • $ 286 million for freeway improvements
  • $ 171 million for streets and roads improvements
  • $ 101 million for rail services and capital improvements.

This balanced budget is a result of OCTA’s mission to deliver innovative, long-term sustainable transportation solutions for the residents of Orange County.

OCTA is the county’s transportation agency, responsible for planning, financing and coordinating Orange County’s freeway, street and rail development, as well as managing countywide bus and paratransit service, rail service and the 91 Express Lanes.
