By giving up a solo drive in a car and taking the bus or train, riding a bicycle, or working from home, commuters can reduce traffic congestion and help with air quality
ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority encourages commuters to give up the solo commute and save time and money by sharing the ride – or working from home – during Rideshare Week 2021, which runs Oct. 4 - 8.
During Rideshare Week, OCTA would like commuters to “Drive Less, Smile More” by considering alternative transportation options such as taking OC Bus, a Metrolink train, or going by bike, electric scooter, carpool or vanpool.
“As more people in Orange County continue to return to work, we hope they will keep in mind the importance of safely sharing a ride,” said OCTA Chairman Andrew Do, also Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. “Whether it’s taking the bus or train, riding a bicycle or even continuing to work remotely when possible, sharing the ride helps keep Orange County moving efficiently while improving air quality.”
OCTA joins transportation agencies across the region and the county in promoting the annual Rideshare Week.
Those who go online to www.octa.net/rideshareweek can pledge to share the ride any number of days during the week and can enter for a chance to win fitness-related prizes, such as an Apple Watch SE and AirPods Pro. Prizes are sponsored by Spectrumotion.
Understanding that some traditional commuters continue during the COVID-19 pandemic to work part-time or exclusively from home, those who telework are also helping take more cars off local roads. So remote workers can pledge too. Online pledges must be made by the end of the day on Sunday, Oct. 10.
OCTA hopes that people who participate during Rideshare Week and try alternate forms of transportation will discover the lasting benefits and continue sharing the ride throughout the year.
