The Orange County Transportation Authority will bring together local, state and federal officials to mark the beginning of construction on the OC Streetcar. In addition, the nation’s top transit official, Federal Transit Administration Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams, will make a major funding announcement about the OC Streetcar, the county’s first modern electric streetcar, which will be an additional public transit option and key connection in the heart of Orange County.

The event marks the official start of construction on the OC Streetcar, which will run along a 4.1-mile route from the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center to a new transit stop on Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove, serving more than 7,000 daily riders.

Media is invited to attend this event to join local, state and federal officials and community members to see the check presentation and to kick off construction on the project, which is expected to begin serving passengers in late 2021.

The OC Streetcar is an approximately $408 million rail transit project that will operate in the heart of Orange County, serving Santa Ana’s historic and active downtown, which includes federal, state and local courthouses, government offices, an artists’ village, Calle Cuatro and a thriving restaurant scene.

A fleet of eight streetcar vehicles will serve the route making stops at 10 stations every 10 to 15 minutes, carrying up to 180 passengers at a time. The OC Streetcar will connect riders to Amtrak and Metrolink commuter rail and connect with the busiest bus routes in the OC Bus system.
