OCTA Seeks Applicants For Measure M Taxpayers Oversight Committee

Applications for oversight committee are being accepted through April 23

April 3, 2012

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is seeking qualified volunteers to serve on the Measure M Taxpayers Oversight Committee.

The independent 11-member committee monitors OCTA’s use of Measure M2 funds, the half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, and ensures that all revenue collected is spent on voter-approved transportation projects.

Committee members also are responsible for approving changes to the Measure M Traffic Improvement and Growth Management Plan, which determines how the funds are allocated, holding annual public hearings regarding the status of Measure M funds and requesting independent audits of any issues involving Measure M projects.

Applications for the 2012 - 2015 term will be accepted through April 23 to fill four seats, one each in the First, Second and Fourth and Fifth Supervisorial Districts. Orange County residents residing in those areas are eligible to apply.

The First District consists of Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Westminster, portions of Fountain Valley and the unincorporated community of Midway City.

The Second District consists of Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Seal Beach, Stanton and the unincorporated areas of Rossmoor, Sunset Beach and Surfside.

The Fourth District consists of Anaheim (excluding Anaheim Hills), Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra and Placentia.

The Fifth District consists of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano and the unincorporated areas of Coto de Caza, Ladera Ranch, Las Flores and Wagon Wheel.

Candidates must be at least 18 and willing to participate for a three-year term. Candidates also should demonstrate a history of participating in community activities, ideally with emphasis on transportation-related activities. The committee meets at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of every other month at OCTA, 600 S. Main St. in Orange.

The Grand Jurors Association of Orange County is conducting the recruitment program and will screen all applications and recommend qualified candidates for membership.
