OCTA to Launch Golden West College Bus Pass for Students to Ride Free

WHAT: The Orange County Transportation Authority, in partnership with Golden West College, will mark the launch of a bus-pass program allowing students from the college unlimited rides on the OC Bus system for free.

The program allows students better access to education and helps take cars off the road, improving traffic conditions and resulting in cleaner air.

Media is invited to join the event, which will include a photo opportunity in front of a bus fully wrapped with the program’s “ride free” logo. OCTA and college officials also will be available for interviews.

WHEN: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28

WHERE: Golden West College, 15744 Goldenwest St. Huntington Beach, CA 92647

WHO: Scheduled speakers include:

  • OCTA Chairman Tim Shaw
  • OCTA Director Andrew Do, also the Orange County First District Supervisor
  • OCTA CEO Darrell E. Johnson
  • Dr. Lorraine Prinsky, President of the Board of Trustees, Coast Community College District
  • Dr. John Wespfenning, Chancellor Coast Community College District
  • Tim McGrath, President Golden West College
  • Matija Jancic, V.P. of Financial Affairs, Associated Students

WHY: OCTA’s college bus program allows college students to ride to school, work or anywhere in the OC Bus system for free.

This is a three-year pilot program. There is no cost to students. For the first year, state cap-and-trade funded Low Carbon Transit Operations Program funds will cover the cost, and the second and third years will be covered by the Associated Students of Golden West College.

The college pass program is now at four colleges across Orange County.
