Thursday’s press conference with Congressional leaders and regional transit agencies is part of a nationwide effort to highlight the need to support U.S. roads, bridges and public transportation systems
ORANGE – Orange County Transportation Authority Chairman Jeff Lalloway, also the mayor pro tem of Irvine, will join members of Congress, local elected officials and regional transportation agencies in a joint press conference to bring attention to transportation and infrastructure needs throughout the country.
The press conference, hosted by Long Beach Transit, is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 9 at the Queen Mary Event lot, 1126 Queens Highway, Long Beach, 90082 (left of the Queen Mary’s bow).
“Stand Up for Transportation Day,” is an effort by the American Public Transportation Association. With support from national and local partners from transportation agencies and business and community oriented interests, Stand Up for Transportation Day will unite the voices of more than 300 participating organizations in more than 140 communities across the country to focus on the urgency of the passage of a long-term, federal transportation bill.
The current federal transportation funding bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), is set to expire on May 31, 2015. Without a long-term federal transportation funding bill, Orange County and communities across the country will face tremendous uncertainty. Transportation is the backbone of the local and national economy. A long-term transportation bill is needed for improved and expanded transportation options and to continue to grow our economy.
Recognizing the need for more public awareness and joining OCTA officials at Stand Up for Transportation Day will be Congressman Alan Lowenthal; Congresswoman Janice Hahn; Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell; Long Beach Transit Chief Executive Officer, Kenneth McDonald; Long Beach Transit Board Chairperson, Barbara Sullivan George; Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia; Long Beach Airport Director, Bryant Francis; and Los Angeles County Municipal Operators Association Chairperson and Culver City Bus Transportation Director, Art Ida.
