ORANGE – Commuters looking for ways to improve their health, help the environment and cut the cost of driving are invited to participate in Bike to Work Week from May 17 to May 21.

Presented by the Orange County Transportation Authority, the week will include rallies throughout the county and offer participants a chance to win prizes donated by local businesses.

“It’s great to see the biking community come together to encourage others to join in the ride,” said OCTA Chairman Jerry Amante, also the Mayor of Tustin. “With more than 800 miles of bikeways, Orange County is an ideal environment to bike to work – on a regular basis, once a week or even once in a while.”

Bike to Work Week culminates on Friday, May 21 as OCTA CEO Will Kempton hops on his bike and leads a 3-mile ride beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, May 21 from the Orange Metrolink Station, 194 N. Atchison St., to OCTA headquarters, 550 S. Main St. in Orange.

After arriving at OCTA, Amante and Kempton are expected to announce details of a multi-million dollar grant program to improve bikeways and walkways in cities throughout the county.

To be eligible for Bike to Work Week prizes, participants are required to fill out a pledge form at www.octa.net/biketowork . After completing the form, a $25 discount coupon to Jax Bicycle Center is available for download.

All those who complete the form will be entered into a drawing for prizes including Oakley sunglasses, Nirve bicycles, gift certificates from VPSI, Inc., movie tickets and OCTA Bike to Work shirts from Spectrumotion.

Orange County’s Bike to Work Week is sponsored by Orange County Bicycle Coalition, California Bicycle Coalition, Jax Bicycle Center, Oakley, Nirve, VPSI, Inc., Clif Bar and Spectrumotion.
