Open Houses Set To Explore Transportation Solutions At Orange And Los Angeles County Line

Public encouraged to attend and provide input into concept alternatives

ORANGE – Nearly 2 million people a day travel across the Orange and Los Angeles county line using automobiles, buses and trains and transportation planners from both sides are seeking input from the public on ways to make the commute a smoother one.

The public is invited to two open houses next week to provide feedback on the conceptual alternatives being looked at as part of the OC/LA Intercounty Transportation Study, the first cooperative planning effort between the Orange County Transportation Authority and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority.

The first open house is from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 13 at the La Mirada Resource Center, 13710 La Mirada Blvd. in La Mirada. The second open house is from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 15 at the Cypress Community Center, 5700 Orange Ave. in Cypress.

The one-year, nearly $300,000 study is analyzing bus, rail and vehicle traffic along the region and is intended to identify transportation needs in the two-county area, coordinate cross-border planning and improvements, and develop strategies to enhance connections between the two counties.

Concepts being proposed include increased bus service, signal coordination, widening streets, improving freeway interchanges, adding freeway lanes, providing improved transit services and exploring public-private partnerships.

The concepts developed will lay the foundation for future work between the two agencies, including further planning, engineering and environmental studies.
