Transportation expert a guiding force in shaping the county system
ORANGE – Peter Buffa will continue to play a fundamental role in guiding how Orange County moves for the years to come by serving as a public member on the Orange County Transportation Authority’s board of directors.
Currently serving as chairman, Buffa first became a board member in 2005 and was re-appointed Friday for a four-year term.
During the past four years, he was instrumental in the passage of Renewed Measure M and rebuilding the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22). Most recently, he pioneered OCTA’s effort to secure $212 million in federal stimulus dollars for Orange County projects.
"This is a very challenging time for transportation in Orange County but it's also an exciting time. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the board as we look for innovative ways to kick-start our economy by advancing and accelerating transportation projects," said Buffa. "I am very grateful to be reappointed. Being given the opportunity to serve the people of Orange County is a responsibility and a privilege - and I take both of them very seriously."
Buffa served as a councilmember and mayor of Costa Mesa from 1986 to 1998. He also served as a director for the Transportation Corridor Agency from 1987 to 1998, including two terms as chair of the San Joaquin Hills Corridor Agency.
In 1998, he received special recognition from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association for his work on innovative transportation projects.
Buffa currently serves as chairman for the Executive Committee at OCTA and is a member of the Finance and Administration Committee, Legislative and Communications Committee and Transportation 2020 Committee.
He and his wife, Sharyn, live in Costa Mesa. They have two adult children.
