Public Invited to Open House on Improvements Planned for I-605/Katella Avenue

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority, in partnership with Caltrans, will host an open house on Tuesday, April 24 to discuss proposed improvements to the Interstate 605 and Katella Avenue interchange in Orange County.

The open house is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Los Alamitos Community Center, 10911 Oak St., Los Alamitos, CA 90720.

The improvements at the Katella Avenue interchange with I-605 in Los Alamitos are intended to ease traffic flow, enhance safety and provide better pedestrian and bicycle pathways in the area.

A draft environmental document that studies the project’s potential impacts on the environment is available for public review. Comments on the document will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8.

Comments will also be accepted in person at the April 24 open house. Staff from OCTA and Caltrans will be on hand to talk about the project and answer questions from the public.

The proposed project can be reviewed online at www.dot.ca.gov/d12/DEA/605/0K870.

It can also be reviewed in person during regular business hours at the following locations:

  • Caltrans District 12 Office, 1750 East 4th St., Suite 100, Santa Ana, CA 92705
  • City of Los Alamitos City Hall, 3191 Katella Ave., Los Alamitos, CA 90720
  • Los Alamitos-Rossmoor Library, 12700 Montecito, Seal Beach, CA 90740

The current interchange at Katella Avenue was built nearly 50 years ago and is a mix of loop ramps and direct ramps that are constrained by the adjacent Coyote Creek Channel.

The project proposal would provide for easier access on and off of the I-605 freeway, near the border of Los Alamitos and Los Angeles County. I-605 is a major freeway for goods movement between the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and destinations in Orange County and beyond.
