Orange Freeway will be shut between Katella Avenue and Ball Road
Dec. 13, 2011
ORANGE – The Orange Freeway (SR-57) will close in both directions Saturday night as part of the SR-57 northbound improvement project.
The nighttime closure will take place Saturday, Dec. 17 between 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. so Anaheim Public Utilities crews can relocate electrical power lines. All northbound and southbound lanes on the SR-57 will be closed between Katella Avenue and Ball Road. In addition, the northbound Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) to northbound SR-57 connector and carpool connector will be closed during that time.
Detour signs will be posted and the suggested routes are as follows:
From the southbound SR-57, exit Ball Road and turn right, turn left on State College Boulevard and turn left on Katella Avenue to access the southbound SR-57 on-ramp
From the northbound SR-57, exit Katella Avenue and turn right, turn left on Main Street, turn left on Taft Avenue and continue on to Ball Road to access the northbound SR-57
From the northbound I-5, exit State College Boulevard and turn right and turn right on Ball Road to access the northbound SR-57 on-ramp
The $45 million project is the second segment in a series of improvements along the SR-57 and will add a 3-mile northbound lane from Katella Avenue to Lincoln Avenue in Anaheim. Construction on the first segment between Orangethorpe Avenue and Lambert Road began in January 2011 and is currently more than 30 percent completed.
Both projects are anticipated to wrap up construction in 2014 and ease traffic for the nearly 160,000 vehicles that travel this section of the freeway every day.
