Tell Your OC Bus Driver: ‘Thanks for Getting Me There!’

Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day is March 18, a chance to show appreciation for the drivers and workers who keep Orange County bus passengers moving safely

ORANGE – Every day the Orange County Transportation Authority’s coach operators and maintenance and service workers show up to keep the county’s public transit system running safely and efficiently.

Even during the height of the pandemic, they reported to work, to help people reach essential jobs and medical appointments.

While we honor their commitment year-round, this week is a special opportunity for all of us to say thank you.

Saturday, March 18, OCTA is joining transit agencies everywhere in celebrating Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day by saying “Thanks for getting me there!”

On that day, OCTA is asking bus riders to thank their coach operators in person. Riders can also leave a message of thanks online – and enter for a chance to win a free 30-day bus pass in the process.

“We honor the work our transit professionals do every day and want them on this particular day to truly feel our appreciation,” said OCTA Chairman Gene Hernandez, also the Mayor of Yorba Linda. “They are the dedicated people who keep Orange County moving and they deserve our sincere gratitude.”

These professionals comprise the majority of OCTA’s workforce, including:

  • Coach operators: 45%
  • Crafts: 7%
  • Technicians: 5%
  • Facility technicians and service workers: 4%.

Please read about some of OCTA’s outstanding employees and leave words of encouragement and gratitude at www.octa.net/Driver-Appreciation-Day.

March 18 is traditionally the day to honor transit professionals because the first public transit – powered by horses – launched in France on that day in 1662.
