Track Stabilization Project
Construction Activities
Crews are installing 220 ground anchors into the large slope between the railroad tracks and the Cyprus Shore community to prevent the slope from pushing the tracks further toward the coast. Two rows of ground anchors – 104 in row one and 116 in row two – are being drilled into bedrock beneath the slope.
Row two ground anchor installation
Contractors reached an important milestone in January 2023. The first row of 104 anchors has been installed and secured, and crews have installed more than 50 percent of ground anchors in the second row.
Construction Schedule
Project completion has been extended to late mid-April due to site conditions and inclement weather.
Work hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and crews may work on Saturdays as needed. No night work is anticipated.
Crews are expected to work Saturday, March, 25, during regular work hours. Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner weekend service will not be affected by this work.
This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

Community Impacts
Residents may hear back-up alarms from construction equipment; the alarms are required by state regulation. In addition, train horns may be sounded, a requirement when workers are present near the tracks.
Safety
To ensure pedestrian safety, crossing tracks outside of designated access paths is prohibited. Anyone entering the rail property could be cited for trespassing.
